Hi QualTekGuy - short answer - no. What you described I would call cloverleafs. Rotaries are also called roundabouts. Just a big circle with roads coming in. They work really well WHEN people obey the rules. Rule # 1 SIGNAL when you are going to exit so people coming in from that street know they can go. They just take your place and no one ever has to wait longer than necessary like you do at red lights and you don't have to stop if there is space, unlike stop signs. Rotaries keep traffic moving. Signals and stop signs more often than not make traffic stop unnecessarily. As a bonus, with rotaries, there is no possibility of running lights or stop signs, no possibility of killer high speed T-bone collisions when people enter when they shouldn't since the collisions are at an angle. We have a big rectangular rotary here and more often than not the people signaling are the ones STAYING in the rotary so people know it is NOT safe to jump in. The others are all idiots.

I see people refer to rotaries and I was wondering if that is similar to an expressway ramp, where east-west traffic goes over the north-south traffic and turns are made from ramps.

I was born in the midwest and now live in the southwest. I drive a truck as do many of folks there and here. Although I was born here and thought I was an American, thank you for letting me know that I am not a REAL American ... since you must be a REAL one, please let me know what I AM if I am not a REAL one

(I hope you don't tell me that REAL Americans don't have freedom of choice and that they should only buy/drive what someone else tells them to)
